Believe!

When you look for the most beautiful things in life you will see, and if you take the time you will know, and if you know then you will believe!”

ninasoden2Nina Soden – Author

Today I am showcasing a wonderfully talented and stunning author – Nina Soden – a pleasure to endorse, well known, writer whom I greatly admire.

Nina, would you mind answering some questions for the readers please?

What genre do you write?

Currently I am writing a YA supernatural series, but I have another book in the works that is more drama fiction.

Would you share with us what work of yours has been published and give us a brief description of them?

  • ninaAwaken, book 1 in the Blood Angel Series was published in July of 2012.

Awaken is set in a world very much like our own, yet Atlanta isn’t just an ordinary city and Alee Moyer isn’t just an ordinary girl. Having barely survived her childhood it will take the death of her father for the truth of her true bloodline to come out. Even if it means losing her life, or at least her identity she won’t be able to escape her true destiny as the first surviving Dhampir in history. Surrounded by a new world where the horror films she grew up watching have become reality and the most unlikely characters have become her lifeline, Alee will struggle to find herself and her purpose.

  • nina2Beginnings, book 2 in the Blood Angel Series was published in May of 2013.

Surrounded by a new world where the horror films she grew up watching have become reality Alee finds that the most unlikely characters have become her lifeline. If she thought hunting in the wild and drinking blood was bad, what will she think when she becomes the hunted? Newly armed with the knowledge of being half witch and half vampire Alee, the only surviving Dhampir in history, is forced to learn to control a lifetime of magic and vampire powers if she wants to survive.

  • ninarevengeRevenge, book 3 in the Blood Angel Series is set to be published in late August 2014.

A massacre has devastated the Underground community after the Lycanthropes’ attack at the Founders’ Celebration, but a massive cover-up is already in place. Having finally accepted her new life, Aleerah lets go of Alee and her past life and seeks revenge for the death of the man she loves and so many others.

What do you hope remains with your readers after reading your work?

Honestly, I just want my readers to be entertained. I’m not writing a book to teach something; there isn’t a hidden message or lesson to be learned in the pages of my books… at least not these ones. I come from an artistic background; art, music, theatre, writing, and I believe that sometimes art just for the sake of entertainment is the best stress reliever there is. I enjoy reading to calm my mind and relax, I would like my books to do that for other people.

ninasodenHow long have you been a writer?

I have been writing poetry for as long as I can remember. When I moved out to Los Angeles to follow my dreams of becoming an actress I also dabbled in film and wrote a screenplay. It never went anywhere except my bookshelf, because although I believe it had a great concept that industry is extremely hard to break into. After leaving California I turned back to my poetry and self-published Private Words Unspoken… a collection of my poetry. Shortly after that was published I started playing around with some other ideas, and that is how Awaken was born.

What or who inspired you to become a writer?

I’m not really sure who inspired me to write. Like I said I have always been artistic and writing is just another form of art to me. However, I can tell you who made me fall in love with reading, my mother Clara. She used to take my sister and me to the library every weekend when we were little, and although I hated it at first eventually I grew to look forward to those trips. I couldn’t wait to see what book I would get next. As a kid I enjoyed the Hardy Boys books, Nancy Drew, Encyclopedia Brown, and the Babysitters Club. However, reading didn’t actually become an obsession of mine until high school when I discovered Stephen King. Now I am pretty much addicted to the supernatural stories. I fell in love with the Anita Blake Series by Laurell K. Hamilton and could hardly put them down until I made it through the series, or at least all of the currently published books. I also really enjoy reading Rachel Caine, Lauren Kate, Stephanie Meyer, L. J. Smith, Suzanne Collins, and of course the inspiring indie-author Amanda Hocking.

What has been your most rewarding experience while in the writing process?

I actually have three; one was seeing my first good review on Amazon and not knowing the person that posted it. The second exciting experience happened while I was directing a theatre production in my home town, and someone I didn’t know emailed me asking about the auditions, but at the end of the email he asked if I was the same Nina Soden that was an author. He said that his friend told him about my books and that she really enjoyed them. It was the first time someone had recognized my name because of my books, and it felt so amazing. Lastly, and probably the most rewarding experience was the day that I published my first book. That feeling of accomplishment, of fulfilling a dream, there really is nothing like it.

ninasoden3What has been your most negative experience while in the writing process?

I don’t think I really have any negative experiences. I mean, sure like everyone else I had to go through painful page after painful page of redline edits from my editor, but that lead to better books. I am also not without the less than 5-star reviews, but you can’t make everyone happy and as long as you have thick skin (in this business you need it) you can read every review and learn something. I guess if I had to find something negative it would have to been the lack of time I have to write. I work a full-time job, I have a family and a home to care for, and I am active in theatre. So, there is little time to write and the longer I stay away from my stories the harder I have to break through the “writer’s block” to get back into them. Sitting at my computer knowing what is about to happen in my story, but not being able to find the words is more stressful than not even knowing what will happen.

What one positive piece of advice would you give to other authors?

Write as much as you can and as often as you can, because if this is something you really want to do then you are the one that has to make it happen. No one else is going to do it for you.

What, if anything, makes you want to get on a soapbox?

My husband says I’m a bit of a feminist, but it isn’t that. I just believe in equal right; not just between women and men, but also between people of all races. I don’t understand discrimination and when I see it I feel compelled to say something.

ninasoden4Would you like to share with us what future writing projects you have in your future?

I am currently completing the final edits and formatting on REVENGE book 3 in the Blood Angel Series and getting it ready to be released in August of this year.

The second book I’m working on right now is called MY GARDEN VIEW APARTMENT; it is a drama about a woman who loses everything. The title is a working title that I am sure will change before the book is complete. I don’t want to give away too much about the story right now, because I haven’t announced it yet and because I have just started breaking the ice on that one.
